'Asymmetric Box' to teach PGP

We believe that cybersecurity concepts should be easily accessible to everyone, no matter their age or level of expertise in the matter. If we want to reduce the tech gap, then we have to change the way we engage and share information about digital security.

In this lighting talk for Mozfest 2022 we want to talk about our experiences trying to present these concepts in different ways, with a focus on our "asymmetric box", a 3D-printed box with a mechanical system that helps teach and understand the concepts behind PGP encrypted email and other public key cryptography tools.

If you are interested in building an 'asymmetric box' yourself, you can find all the necessary files for 3D printing in our public Gihub repo. Since this is an open-source project, we welcome any ideas that could improve this first prototype. We'd also love to connect with other organizations to share ideas about new ways if teaching digital security.

Conexion Segura is an initiative of the non-profit organization Venezuela Inteligente and the project VE Sin Filtro, which seek to promote the use of digital tools to improve access to information and the response capacity of other organizations, activists and civil society in general. Venezuela Inteligente fights for the rights of Venezuelans online and offline. Likewise, it diagnoses, documents and helps to overcome internet censorship.
